Japan Society of Civil Engineers conducted a survey on working conditions of rehired engineers after retirement. The result revealed that 93% of the subject and about 80% in managing positions earn less while 49% said the contents of their work were the same with those before the retirement.

128 companies out of 199 that have memberships in the society answered the questionnaire. More than 20% found the salary decreasing rate 40-50% or 30-40%, followed by 50-60% and 20-30%. The most answered reason of reemployment was the employees’request; the second most was the employers’ request.The survey also showed that employers preferred re-employees’ advantage in ability and experience the most, followed by training, qualifications and personal network.
