Obayashi Corp. revealed its concept of a future city in 2050 named “Mosaic City,” which is optimized spatially and functionally by making use of the large amount of digital information. The “Big Data” analysis realizes a walking-distance compact city where small units of daily-life facilities such as schools, offices, and hospitals are centered.
The plan, plotted by the company’s technical team, appeared in Obayashi’s PR publication. In the mosaic city, necessary functions for people’s daily life are consolidated in surplus spaces created due to depopulation. Urban functions are scattered in the entire community and the city represents an aggregation of personal areas. A new concept of logistics that uses aerial ropeway-like containers creates transport networks carrying goods from remote production sites.
The team considers that big data analysis enables to make an innovation in industry and to expand business chances. The mosaic city plan is expected to be one of possible blue prints of future cities. (2014/04/03)
