Japan Railway Companies Establishes Association for High Speed Rail System Export

Association of four rail companies established to promote export of Japanese bullet train system to overseas held its first meeting in Tokyo on April 10. International High Speed Rail Association, IHRA will advertise Japan’s safest and advanced high speed rail technologies to other countries, aiming to standardize Japanese system in the international market. Chairman Masafumi Syukuri said at the press conference, “We hope to contribute to the expanding global demand in high speed rail by offering Japan’s Shinkansen system that has never experienced a fatal accident.”
Besides four Japan Railway Companies, 25 private companies in relevant sectors have joined the group including Hitachi, Toshiba, Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal, and Japan International Consultants for Transportation. The association intends to export the Bullet Train or Shinkansen System based on the member companies’ safety principal “Crash Avoidance,” which includes dedicated tracks for passenger trains and the automatic train control system.
