The ceremony to celebrate completion of Japan’s new national stadium was held on December 15 with attendance of the government leaders including Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Representatives of the contractors, Chairman of Taisei Corp Yamauchi Takashi, President of Azusa Sekkei Fumihiko Sugitani and architect Kengo Kuma attended the ceremony as well as Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike to commemorate the main venue of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Looking back at the process of the project which once suffered withdrawal of the initial plan, Mr. Abe praised the “All-Japan” efforts of those involved in the project at the ceremony.

Mr. Yamauchi also expressed his gratitude toward the project owner Japan Sports Council and relevant officials for the successful delivery of the facility. “The stadium would contribute to further development of sports in Japan,” said President of JSC Kazumi Ohigashi.

JSC later held the media tour of the stadium which has already been equipped with running tracks, lawn and 60,000 seats. To meet the completion deadline of the 36-month construction, the contractors divided the structure in four sections and repeated the process to streamline the construction. The number of workers reached 2,800 per day at most. (2019/12/17)
