Land Ministry and five construction industry groups including Japan Federation of Construction Contractors agreed on April 24 that they will jointly develop an action plan by summer on promotion of female workers participation in construction industry.
The plan aims to double the number of female engineers and craft workers in five years. Minister Akihiro Ota, who had a meeting with leaders of the groups on the day, expressed his intention to create women-friendly working environment and to launch a model project for expanding female engineers’ involvement.
The agreement includes five pillars of the action plan such as increasing the number of women to be hired, improvement of work conditions and publicity of women in the industry. (2014/04/25)
