Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a contract on April 23 to establish a joint business in development of Thilawa Special Economic Zone in Myanmar with three bodies involved in the project. This will make the first investment for JICA in the nation since the resume of its private sector investment financing in 2012.
A to-be-initially-developed area named “Class A Area” of some 400ha out of total 2400ha will be developed with JICA’s financial support by the consortium, Myanmar Japan Thilawa Development (MJTD) consisting of Japanese three trade companies and Myanmar’s public and private sectors. The developer will build industrial complex with advanced infrastructure such as power supply and water system toward commencement planned in 2015. (2014/04/25)
