Obayashi Corp. announced April 25 that it developed off-grid photovoltaic exterior integrated with glass curtain walls. The system introducing high-efficient and long-life silicon crystal cells supplies electricity directly to ventilation of windows and motors to move retractable screens. Obayashi applied the system for the first time to a new laboratory of its technical research institute in Kiyose City, Tokyo.
Since the solar cells operate independently, it can be used at emergency situations such as blackouts. The system is expected to contribute to the company’s business continuity plan (BCP). The builder intends to promote the system as a package with its original ventilation system installed by windows that can reduce solar radiation heat by 10%. (2014/04/28)
