Construction order values received in fiscal 2013 that ended in March 2014 increased 10.1% from a year earlier to 75.8 trillion yen, according to Land ministry’s data released on May 12. Increase of public works by the central governments and housing work surge before the consumption tax hike in April pushed the values up to the level in 2007, which was before the global financial crisis.
The data was collected from nationwide 12,000 companies selected among all licensed construction businesses. The total value comprises 51.8 trillion yen by prime contractors and 24 trillion yen by subcontractors, showing increase of 12.4% and 5.5% respectively. (2014/05/13)
