The Imperial Hotel, a historic high-end hotel in Tokyo revealed on October 27 the artistic impression of a new main building planned to replace the existing hotel in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. France-based Japanese architect Tsuyoshi Tane, who is known for his works of Estonian National Museum and the Hirosaki Brick Warehouse Museum, has been appointed as the design architect. With the concept of "Jewel of the Orient", the new building will inherit the history of the hotel. The hotel is scheduled to be reconstructed in 2031-36. At a press conference in Tokyo on the same day, President of the hotel Hideya Sadayasu said, "We aim to create a hotel with a sense of style and dignity that can provide excellent services.”

A total of 240,000 square meters, including the main building and the tower building, are planned to be reconstructed. The tower building will be developed jointly with Mitsui Fudosan to construct a complex of offices and commercial facilities. The tower is expected to complete in 2024-2030. The total cost of the project is estimated at 200 to 250 billion yen.

The design concept of the new main building is "Jewel of the Orient.” The company is considering the use of stone materials. President Sadayasu said, "We will create a new stage where our staff will welcome guests with smiles.” Mr. Tane explained how he came up with the design of the hotel, saying, "I thought about how an architecture could remain dignified and continue to stand in the neighborhood undergoing development. Since this is one of Japan's renowned hotels, I would like to make it a major project to explore what the unique hotel should look like.”
