Obayashi Applies Low Carbon Concrete, Lowering CO2 Emission by 68%

Obayashi Corp. developed new concrete that can lower CO2 emission in production process by using recycled materials. The company applied the product, “Clean-crete” to a foundation part of a 24 story residential tower under construction in Tokyo and achieved 68% reduction of emission compared to existing concrete. It was the first application to a large scaled development and placement of 6,000 m3 concrete is the largest ever.


Construction of two high rises with total 227,7200m2 floor area is now undertaken by a group of construction companies including Obayashi and it is slated for completion in May 2016. The project owner is replacing an aging hotel with a new complex of offices, a hotel and retalers with higher quality in sustainability, energy efficiency and disaster prevention. (2014/5/27)
