Japanese Diet Passes Three Amended Laws on Construction

Three bills focusing mainly on measures against future labor shortage in the construction industry was approved unanimously by the Japanese Diet’s Lower House on May 29. The laws will strengthen the responsibilities of employers for anti-dumping and reasonable profits of public work contractors, aiming to revitalize suffering local construction industry from decreasing construction spending and intense competition. The government expects the laws to revitalize the construction businesses and to invite more workers of younger generations to the industry.
Out of the three laws, the revised Public Construction Quality Control Act will take effect simultaneously with the announcement, while the amendment of the Construction Business Act and the Act on Regulation of Public Procurement will be in enforcement in April 2015. (2014/05/30)
