TEPCO to Procure EPC Contractor for Thermal Plant Replacement through International Bidding

Tokyo Electric Power Co. or TEPCO started a procedure of an international tender on June 11 for a contractor of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) to rebuild existing thermal power stations totaling 10 million KW capacity. This will be the first full turnkey contract that is commonly applied overseas awarded by Japanese utilities. Construction is projected to be undertaken in several plants in surrounding area of Tokyo. The commencement is due in 2021-2023.
The EPC includes development of both LNG-fired and coal-fired plants. The contractor will be selected among bidders including foreign based companies. TEPCO aims at reduction of construction cost with technical proposals offered by candidates. Prequalification will be implemented by mid-July and the contract is scheduled to be awarded in fall.
