Japanese construction company Obayashi Corporation has been awarded a contract by Australian real estate developer Dexus to construct the world's tallest hybrid wooden building with a height of 182 meters in Sydney. The 39-story building of the reinforced concrete, steel and wooden structure will have a total floor space of approximately 75,000 square meters. The building, commissioned to a joint venture of Obayashi and the local company Built, will be constructed of steel frames and cross laminated timber on the seventh floor and above. The project is expected to be completed in 2026. The name of the project is "Atlassian Central.” The tower will be a symbol of Sydney's innovation and technology district called Tech Central. The project consists of offices in the upper floors and a hotel and retail shops in the lower floors. U.S.-based SHoP Architects and Australian firm BVN Architecture are responsible for the design. The site area is approximately 3,500 square meters. The construction is expected to be completed in 2026. The project aims to obtain the highest level of green building certifications such as LEED by the U.S. Green Building Council, and WELL, the building performance evaluation system focusing on health. The goal is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions during construction to less than 50% of a conventional building. When completed, the building will be entirely powered by renewable energy. (2022/08/25)
