Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan revealed a draft of technical standards to evaluate the performance of environmentally-friendly urban development to be proposed to the government of Vietnam. Vietnam has mapped out a policy to give favorable conditions such as regulations and tax to development projects that meet certain criteria. The ministry will propose to the Vietnamese side applying Japanese standards, hoping to back Japanese businesses’ participation in Eco-City development.
Vietnam requested supports from Japan in preparing evaluation standards and indicators to promote environment-friendly development in rapidly urbanizing cities such as Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi. MLIT’s idea intends to visualize the level of ecological performance by showing indicators in various sectors. The proposed indicators are in five fields; Environmental Symbiosis; Resource Recycle; Security and Safety; Public Transportation. The draft was prepared incorporating private sector’s opinions including Taisei Corp., Tokyu Corp., Hitachi, Toshiba and Panasonic. (2014/06/17)
