Japan’s Taisei Awarded Contract to Build Tunnel, Station on Singapore’s New MRT Line
Japanese construction company Taisei Corporation announced on October 21 that it has received an order to construct Riviera Station on the Punggol extension of the Cross Island Line of Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit System. Partnering with the China State Construction Engineering Corporation, the company will undertake the detailed design and construction of the station building and a large-diameter shield tunnel with a length of 4.3km. The contract was signed with the Land Transport Authority of Singapore at approximately 110 billion yen.
The Punggol Extension Line will consist of four stations, Punggol, Riviera, Elias, and Pasir Ris, and will extend 7.3 km when completed. The line is scheduled to open in 2032, and is expected to dramatically improve passengers’ convenience.
The joint venture led by Taisei is in charge of the 4.3km tunnel construction, using an earth-pressure balanced tunnel boring machine with a diameter of approximately 12 meters. The Riviera Station will be constructed along the Punggol East and Central Districts. The company has been involved in the MRT East-West Line, Circle Line, Downtown Line, and Thomson East Coast Line in the country, as well as the other packages for new Cross Island line such as CR 105 which is currently under construction.
