Demonstrators of new technologies for radioactive water treatment at Fukushima No.1 Nuclear Power Plant were selected by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan. Eleven experiments in four sectors will be initiated in July by technology developers including Obayashi Corp., Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., JGC Corp., and IHI Corp. The demonstrations are scheduled for completion in March 2015. The four sectors are radioactive seawater purification; decontamination of water storage tanks; removal of radioactive substances from earth; un-manned boring to prevent underwater flow. The subsidy up to \400 million will be given to each operator. Three proposals of Obayashi were approved, which was the most among other applicants. (2014/06/23)
