One of Largest Rail Terminal in Japan To Have New Gate in 2017

East Japan Railway Co. revealed a plan to renovate the square in front of Marunouchi Gate of Tokyo Station and underground retailer shops by 2017. The renewed face of one of the largest terminal stations in Japan is expected to represent the advancing capital hosting Olympic Games in 2020, said President Tetsuro Tomita.
The construction will start in August to develop the 6,500m2 square that has lawn field as well as two spaces for bus stops and taxi stands of 6,300m2 and 5,900m2 respectively. Some 4,500m2 space will be excavated at the both ends of the existing underground hall, where new shops will be positioned. JR East will also renovate the underground spaces fully. (2014/07/03)
