Two of the major civil works for a new metro line in Singapore have been awarded to two Japanese contractors; Penta-Ocean Construction Co. and Nishimatsu Construction Co. The Land Transport Authority announced July 25 contractors of three remaining civil packages of under construction Thomson Line. Penta-Ocean and Bachy Soletanche Singapore, a geotechnical consulting firm will jointly build Orchard Station located in downtown Singapore and two connecting tunnels of 860m long each at 40.5 billion yen. The 26.9 billion yen contract awarded to a joint venture of Nishimatsu and Bachy Soletanche Singapore includes construction of the Gardens by the Bay Station and a pair of 700m connecting tunnels, which will be built near the country’s tourist attractions such as casino resorts. Thomson Line will connect the northern and central areas of the country, stretching 30 km long with 22 stations. The line is scheduled to be in full operation in 2021. (2014/07/29)
