The economic ministry of Japan revealed August 19 a roadmap for development of technology in renewable energy sector. It targets cost reduction of solar power generation by 30% by 2030, while practical application of renewable power such as marine energy is to be explored. The plan also includes demonstration of carbon dioxide capture and storage to be implemented by 2020. The roadmap will be finalized soon based on the current basic energy plan established by the cabinet in April. 19 technologies are listed in the roadmap such as solar, wind, tides, and under water methane hydrate.
