The value of consulting contracts in overseas construction awarded to Japanese companies hit the record high in fiscal 2014 of 96.5 billion yen, showing 44.8% increase from the previous year, said Infrastructure Development Institute-Japan on August 20. Several large-scaled order winning in Bangladesh boosted the total value, where many infrastructure development funded by Japanese official development assistance have been underway. The average value of a single order also recorded the highest as a large-scaled contract of more than 1 billion yen increased threefold to 11 from a year earlier. Orders in Bangladesh was largest in value with 12.2 billion yen, followed by Vietnam with 9.1 billion yen, and Indonesia with 5.7 billion yen. By sectors, consultancy in transport recorded the largest order of 38.1 billion yen, while 15.4 billion yen order was bagged in water and sewer and 11.2 billion yen in energy. (2014/8/21)
