Japan Sports Council announced August 27 that it awarded two packages of demolition of the National Stadium to Saitama Prefecture-based Kanto Construction Co. at 1.86 billion yen and 1.72 billion yen respectively. The current structure will be dismantled and replaced by a new stadium with larger capacity to serve as a main venue for the 2020 Olympic Games.

The international bidding was initially announced in March and ended with no successful bidder because of exceeding maximum price. As JSC changed the procurement method and broadened opportunities for specialty contractors to bid, the bidding came out successfully with lower bid price.
