Tokyo Metropolitan Government will develop the Long-Term Vision in December that decides plans and strategies for city development until 2024, announcing the interim report on September 12. The plan includes eight urban strategies and 230 detailed policies including developments in central areas such as Yurakucho and Jingu-Gaien districts.

Major policies are urban development to become a global center that can attract foreign businesses; more convenient public transportation; city planning for ageing society; safe and livable communities with renewable energy use.

Tokyo aims to increase the number of foreign tourists from 6.8 million in 2013 to 15 million in 2020. The office will promote integration of foreign-based businesses in designated areas. In a bid to improve public transportation, a new station to be constructed on Hibiya Metro Line is under consideration as well as accessibility enhancement. Development of hydrogen station and solar power generation at public facilities are to be promoted in order to facilitate renewable energy use in community planning. (2014/09/16)
