Takenaka Corp. completed construction of a new museum in Kobe City, the only museum for carpentry tools in Japan. The present museum built in 1984 was relocated and replaced by the new one because of deterioration and lack of exhibition spaces. Takenaka opened the museum on October 4, offering interesting experiences of wood works and displaying full-size models and traditional tools that used to be in use.

The 1,883m2 museum located at the foot of Mt. Rokko has a vast collection of more than 30,000 tools from stone axes to hand saws and some 1,000 of them are in display. A 7 meter tall model of part of the actual Buddhism temple in Nara City, the ancient capital of Japan stands in the center of the museum, showing craftsmanship of Japanese carpenters dating back to 8th century.
