Takenaka Corp. is taking advantages of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for designing exterior panels of a complex-shaped building to improve construction productivity. Applied at a large-scaled sports facility, the new method enables to reduce types of the panels as well as production errors. The company intends to promote the method to ensure the construction quality and reduce the work period. A consortium led by Takenaka is in charge of construction of a sports venue in Chofu City, Tokyo to be used at the 2020 Olympic Games. 1,860 aluminum panels of different sizes and shapes will cover the 27,600m2 main arena of Musashino-no Mori Sports Center. Takenaka used BIM software in cooperation with Nihon Sekkei, a design contractor to establish the most suitable method for designing and allocation of the panels. (2014/10/14)
