Taisei and Takenaka Win Construction of New National Stadium for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

One of the largest projects worth of 162.5 billion yen launched in a full swing. Two leading construction companies, Taisei Corp. and Takenaka Corp. were awarded a design-build contract of the New National Stadium, the planned main venue for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Construction of the 80,000-seat stadium that will require the state of the art engineering technologies will be divided in two packages; the grand arched superstructure with retractable roof are commissioned to Takenaka and Taisei will build the movable stands.

After consultations with the Japan Sports Council, the stadium operator and the design team, the construction will start in October 2015. Completion is due in 2019. (2014/11/04)
