Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced an estimated construction cost of 11 facilities planned for the 2020 Olympic Games at 255.3 billion yen, some 100 billion yen more than the initial estimation of the bid’s file deriving from factors such as material and labor cost increase and alternations of the construction plans. Tokyo will seek ways to cut the cost further to prepare the basic plan to be submitted to International Olympic Committee in February 2015. Governor Yoichi Masuzoe, commenting at the city office’s special committee on November 19, said that it is critical to explore possible measures to make the best use of the built assets after the games.
