Tokyo Metro Gov Awards Design Contract of Two 2020 Olympic Venues to Kume Sekkei, Pacific Consultants

Tokyo Metropolitan Government awarded design works of two of the six planned 2020 Olympic Games sports facilities to Japanese firms; Kume Sekkei Co. and Pacific Consultants Co. A volleyball venue, Ariake Arena is commissioned to Kume Sekke, while Pacific Consultants will be in charge of Umino Mori Suijo Kyogijyo, or Sea Forest Waterway for rowing and canoe-kayak (sprint). The contract value is 120 million yen and 260.4 million yen respectively.

Ariake Arena to be located in an area of 36,700m2 near the Tokyo Bay will have total 32,170 floor space with 15,000 seats. Total cost of development is 40.4 billion yen. The contract of Sea Forest Waterway include designing of a 3 km embankment, water gates and a 6,000m2 building. The project is estimated to cost 49.1 billion yen. (2015/01/09)
