Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan will add a new building to the National Training Center in Kita-ku, Tokyo, intending to develop a training camp for athletes aiming to participate in the 2020 Olympic Games. A facility will be built at a 1.3 ha adjacent area of the existing center. A budget of 100 million yen was allocated for the basic design of the new facility in the fiscal 2015 budget proposal.

A panel of the ministry discussing the athletes’ camps established a report on January 9 that proposed expansion of the center as one of suggested approaches. The current center has a 29,000m2 indoor training field, tennis courts, a 22,000m2 athletic field and a 18,000m2 dormitory. (2015/01/15)
