Tokyo Metro Gov. Allocates 46.8 Billion Yen to Develop 2020 Olympic Venues; 2015 Budget Proposal

The 2015 budget of Tokyo’s bureau in charge of preparation for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic games will likely to set aside 46.8 billion yen for development of the sports facility out of the total 64.27 billion, up 164.1% from the year earlier. With the design fee of planned venues decided, the government added 12.5 billion yen to the initially estimated construction budget. A timeline of the developments was also announced.

Designing of the nine new facilities is estimated to cost at 17.9 billion yen, while 1.27 billion yen will be spent for the Olympic village. 21.1 billion yen will be allocated to purchase a land for the Ariake Arena, a planned volleyball venue. In fiscal 2015, development of five facilities such as the Ariake tennis court will be launched and Tokyo will undertake detailed design works of the other four venues including the Olympic Aquatics Center.
