IHI, a Japanese heavy industry leader completed construction of a steel structures factory in Hai Phong, in northern Vietnam. The factory will produce 9,000 ton steel bridges annually and supply the products throughout the Southeastern Asia. The inauguration ceremony took place on March 10 and local leaders and the company’s officials celebrated the opening.

The factory, operated by the firm’s local subsidiary, IHI Infrastructure Asia, is located in the area of 140,000m2 near the Hai Phong Port. The products vary from steel bridges to frames for thermal power stations and container cranes. 120 local staff will be employed at the facility. In order to strengthen its infrastructure business and production capacity in the region, IHI will complete relocation of the existing rented facility by July.

At the ceremony, Vice President Sadao Degawa of IHI mentioned that Nhat Tan Bridge which the company was involved in symbolizes partnership of Japan and Vietnam. “The factory is expected to become a place for technology transfer and training of local engineers,” added Mr. Dgawa. (2015/03/12)
