Japanese electronics company, Panasonic and a real estate developer, Nomura Real Estate Development announced a plan to redevelop Panasonic’s former factory site in Yokohama into a smart city, called “Tsunashima Sustainable Smart Town,” taking advantages of its advanced green technologies. The 37,900m2 plot will house US computer maker, Apple’s research and development center, 100-unit residential and commercial buildings. Construction is slated to start by the end of fiscal 2015 and open fully in 2018.

Apple will build a 25,000m2 structure in the southwest corner of the land, while a retailer Uny Co. will construct multi-purpose commercial building in the 18,300m2 northeastern area. Panasonic will apply its cutting edge energy saving technologies in town development such as fuel cells. Photo: Apple’s R&D Center (2015/03/26)
