98 Large-Scaled Developments of 100,000m2-Plus Floor Launch in Tokyo in Fiscal 2014

The number of developments with more than 10,000m2 floor in Tokyo were revealed between April 2014 and March 2015 declined to 98 from 100 in a year earlier. The total floor area, however, rose by 16.6% to 4.02 million m2. A series of large-scaled projects such as sports facilities for the 2020 Olympic Games contributed to the increase in the second half of the year. It is expected more projects are to launch in central Tokyo for the next two years.

16 developments, the most number of all 23 cities, are located in Minato City, followed by 9 in each Shinagawa and Ota City. By sector, residential projects were 43 in number and offices were 24.

Many super-sized developments, in particular of over 100,000m2 floor were announced in the second half; 355,000m2 Otemachi-2 redevelopment project in Chiyoda City, 220,190m2 Nishi-Shinagawa project in Shinagawa City. The projects are to break ground in late 2014 to early 2015. In the fourth quarter, construction of the 220,000m2 New National Stadium, a main venue for the Olympic Games was added, which is scheduled to complete in 2019.
