Tokyo Metropolitan Government will redevelop the 17 ha Jingu Gaien area near Meiji Jingu Shrine, rebuilding two major sports facilities; Jingu Baseball Stadium and Chichibu no Miya Rugby Field. Tokyo Mayor Yoichi Masuzoe and local land owners signed a memorandum of basic agreement on April 1. The project will launch after the 2020 Olympic Games, which will be based in the New National Stadium to be built in the area.

A new baseball stadium will be constructed in the area that now houses the rugby field, followed by development of the new Chichibu in the former stadium site. Private developments are planned in the area as well. (2015/04/02)
