Japanese private and academic sector is looking to cooperation in Vietnamese workforce development to increase the number of qualified construction workers who has experiences with Japanese engineering technologies. Kogakuin University will accept Vietnamese students for the two-year program. The students will learn Japanese and architecture at school, as well as receive on-site training by Fujita Corp. The students are expected to be hired by Japanese contractors as site managers or leaders of trades when they return home.

10 young Vietnamese who currently work for a local contractor, CC47 are scheduled to come to Japan in September. The students will learn from basic programs to advanced courses in several professions of construction such as rebar, concrete and plastering. The program aims to help the students understand the whole process of construction of Japanese standards and become Japanese-fluent professionals who are familiar with customs and the culture.

The contractor will pay salaries for working hours after the class. Applicants must have a college degree and had to be younger than 35. The students who passed the entrance examination are scheduled to take preparation curriculum for months before entering Japan.

An official of MLIT praised the partnership between the university and the private business as a good example of human capacity building. (2015/04/17)
