Japan’s Largest Deep Sea Port Opens in Yokohama To Accept 160,000 Ton Vessel

Kanto Regional Development Bureau of Japanese Land Ministry held inauguration ceremony of the nation’s largest deep sea port in Yokohama. The new MC-3 Container Terminal is now able to accept 160,000-ton class vessels at its 18 meter deep pier. The 480m long quake resisting pier and the container yard have been developed.

Director General of the Bureau stressed the importance of the port development, addressing at the ceremony. Yokohama Mayor Fumiko Hayashi expressed her hope to attract global logistics demands to the city. The terminal expands in the area of 22.5 ha with four gantry cranes equipped with seismic isolators.
