IHI Corporation Group will accelerate its bridge business in Turkey. IHI Infrastructure Systems Co. Ltd. has been awarded a contract to renovate the First and the Second Bosporus Bridge in Turkey at 12.5 billion yen. It intends to enhance its presence in the country through not only building new bridges but also renovating existing ones. Aiming at larger number of orders to be received in the country, IHI will promote its bridge business in other countries as well.
Both the first Bosporus Bridge, built in 1973 by a British bridge manufacture, and the second, built by IHI in 1988 are 1,510 meters long each, connecting Europe and Asia in Istanbul as trunk lines. The large scaled renovations are necessary for the two bridges because of deterioration. The work includes replacements of hangers and installation of dehumidifiers. It will start soon and is scheduled for completion in 2015. (2013/12/05)
