Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co. Ltd. announced on December 6 that it started an office in Yangon, Myanmar in November, obtaining a license in construction business. The company aims to increase its value of overseas orders and revenues of completed constructions to 70 billion yen as a part of its midterm corporate management plan, where emerging countries including Myanmar are positioned as targeted markets.
Sumitomo Mitsui Construction implemented Japanese Official Development Assistance on bridge works in 1980s-1990s, as well as building large-scaled hotels and condominiums in Myanmar. The company is now undertaking ODA project of building Neak Loeung Bridge over the Mekong River, a part of the Southern Economic Corridor. (2013/12/09)
