The National Resilience Promotion Headquarters held its first meeting on December 17 at the Prime Minister’s Office. Founded under the National Resilience Basic Act, they decided policy guidelines toward national resilience. Preparation for large-scaled disasters including enormous earthquakes and actions for damage mitigation will start in a full scale.
Prime Minister Abe at the beginning of the meeting requested all the members of the Cabinet to work together to establish a basic plan, pointing the national resilience is one of the most urgent issues of the country under the concerns about high probability of the capital inland earthquake or the Nankai Trough earthquake. Chaired by PM Abe, the Headquarters include all members of the Cabinet.
The fundamental policy decided on the day provides the government’s basic attitudes toward national resilience and guidelines to promote the policy in order to avoid administrative failure of the government and the society at the time of huge disasters. The more detailed plan will be established based on evaluation of national land vulnerability, which is aiming at cabinet decision in May 2014. (2014/12/18)
