Japanese builder Sumitomo Mitsui Construction announced on July 24 that a joint venture led by the firm was awarded a contract to construct a 3.2 km bridge in suburban Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam at 20.1 billion yen. Funded by Japanese Official Development Assistance, the bridge will be built as part of the 58 km section linking the city and Cai Mep-Thi Vai Port of the nation’s planned North-South Expressway. As it has won the contract of the adjacent package last July, the company is commissioned to build the total 7.9 km road out of the 11 km Japan-assisted section.

Sumitomo Mitsui and a local contractor Cienco 4 will construct the 2,822 m bridge including the cable stayed main bridge and approach roads for the construction period of 42 months. The longest span is 300 m and the bridge has 140 m tall pylons. The company has a track record of infrastructure development in Vietnam including the 15.6km road and bridges of Lach Huyen Port Project. (2015/06/25)
