Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Partnering with Vietnamese Contractors in Human Resources Development

Japanese builder Sumitomo Mitsui Construction has cooperated with Vietnamese construction companies in training of their employees. Young Vietnamese engineers and craft workers have been trained at Sumitomo Mitsui’s construction site in Japan. The company intends to expand its business in Vietnam by strengthening the tie with the local contractors and to foster capable workers who can play a leadership role at the construction site.

16 Vietnamese work at the expressway bridge construction site in Kobe City, Western Japan. Three of them are engineers who has been dispatched from Cieco 4, one of the largest general construction contractors in Vietnam. The rest of them are trade workers from affiliated companies of Cienco 4.

Vietnam is considered as one of the most important markets as well as Cambodia for the company. Training started in April with completion in two years. One of the workers said there are many things to learn in terms of safety and quality management in Japan. The company will receive new trainees next year. (2015/08/26)
