Japan’s Infrastructure Ministry is requesting 6.67 trillion yen for fiscal 2016 general account budget, 15.4% up from the current fiscal year of 2015. The request for public works spending increased 16.1% to 6.009 trillion yen, exceeding 6 trillion yen for two years in a row. Disaster prevention, measures against aging infrastructure and revitalization of local economy will be the main targets as well as social capital stock that can induce private investment.

The ministry sets four pillars of the budget request; acceleration of reconstruction of the disaster-hit area; safety and security; livable and convenient local society; revitalization of Japanese economy. 202.8 billion yen is requested for anti-earthquakes measures. The office requested 476.9 billion yen for strategic infrastructure management and renewal. (2015/08/28)
