JR Central, Japanese Maglev Bullet Train operator, awarded the first contract to construct Shinagawa terminal station in Tokyo to a joint venture led by Shimizu Corp. As construction to build a structure under the in-operation station will require an advanced engineering, JR Central has divided the work in two packages, one of which was commissioned to the Shimizu group.

The group of Shimizu, Meiko Construction and Sumitomo Mitsui Construction will excavate ten meters and form earth retaining wall for the 150-meter section. The construction period is five and a half years. Procurement process of the remaining 300-meter southern section is underway. Shinagawa Terminal Station of Japan’s first Maglev express train will be built 40-meter underground and construction is projected to take as long as ten years. (2015/09/24)
