Japan Federation of Construction Contractors: Construction Orders Received in 2013 Up 22%

Japan Federation of Construction Contractors announced that 48 member companies recorded 12.65 trillion yen orders received in 2013, upping 22% from a year earlier. It was the first time in five years that the value exceeded 12 trillion yen since 2008 recording more than 13 trillion yen. While last-minute demand before consumption tax increase caused 69.3% rise in orders from the service industry, the value of public works including decontamination works and land preparation in Tohoku region was increased.

The total value comprises domestic orders of 11.94 trillion yen, up 21% from 2012 and overseas orders of 708.6 billion yen, up 41.2%. Orders from domestic private sectors showed 21.7% increase at 8.62 trillion yen. Orders of public works from national governments and agencies recorded 3.3 trillion yen, upping 20%. (2014/01/28)
