A 9.3ha land, a current University of Tohoku campus site in downtown Sendai City of Tohoku region, will be sold to AEON Mall Co. Ltd., a shopping mall developer at 22 billion yen which was selected through a competitive bidding. When the plot is transferred in February 2018, the developer and its associates will jointly build a multi-purpose complex including retail establishments, a hospital, a welfare facility, a research laboratory, and apartment buildings. The total floor space will reach 185,000m2 at most. University of Tohoku will move to a new site and rebuild all facilities due to deterioration. (2014/02/03)
