Laos Vientiane International Airport Gets Terminal Expansion with Japanese ODA

The groundbreaking ceremony of Vientiane International Airport terminal building was held on December 28 in the capital city of Laos with attendance of Japanese Transport Minister Keiichi Ishii, Japanese contractors Hazama Ando and a consultant Nippon Koei. Minister Ishii met with Prime Minister Thongsing and pledged a further assistance to infrastructure development in the nation with Japanese advantages in experiences and technologies.

“Japanese contractors can undertake construction with no obstruction to safe operation of the airport and provide a high quality, convenient terminal building,” said Minister Ishii at the ceremony.

The project includes expansion of the current international terminal lacking capacity and reconstruction of the domestic terminal building. The floor space of the international terminal will double to 23,805m2, while the domestic terminal will have 6,470m2 a 1.6-fold floor area. The total construction cost is 9.7 billion yen and Japanese government will provide 9 billion yen loan. (2016/01/05)
