The International Organization for Standardization, ISO published in January new standards for asset management including public social infrastructure such as roads, sewer, rails and energy plants. Certification and application of the ISO 55000 series will be developed in regions and countries such as Europe, South America, Australia, South Africa, South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand. Japan also needs to act immediately to develop the certification system, because the standards will be possibly applied to international public procurements as one of the requirements.

ISO 55000s series comprise three standards; 55001 setting out the requirements of an asset management system; 55002 providing additional useful guidance for applying ISO 55001; 55000 giving an overview of the subject and offering principles and terminology. (2014/02/05)
