New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), Japanese construction company Shimizu Corp. and its subsidiary Shimizu North America completed on March 23 installation of Zero Energy Building equipment at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in New York. The companies in partnership with SUNY Poly have started demonstration of Japanese energy saving technologies with an aim to reduce 50% of energy consumption. Introducing Japanese technologies throughout the US and globally including European and Asian countries is part of their target as well.

The United States has set a goal to realize all new buildings to be built as net-zero energy building by 2030 and all commercial buildings by 2050. Japan and the US signed in 2009 the U.S.-Japan Clean Energy Technologies Action Plan and agreed to cooperate in joint demonstration project in energy saving building sector. NEDO exchanged a Memorandum of Agreement with SUNY Poly in 2013 to conduct an experimental project at Zero Energy Nanotechnology, or ZEN building at the university’s campus.

Shimizu and Shimizu North America, commissioned by NEDO apply energy saving and energy creation technologies such as Shimizu Smart BEMS, a phosphoric-acid fuel cell (FC) system, and a photovoltaic (PV) power generating system at ZEN building. (2016/03/26)
