The Fiscal 2013 supplementary budget was adopted on February 6 by the House of Councilors, including 5.5 trillion yen economic stimulus spending. 1.01 trillion yen of the total expenditure is appropriated to Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The budget is aimed to develop urban infrastructure including enhancement of transport and logistics networks toward more powerful international competitiveness as well as to accelerate counteractions against natural disasters and ageing infrastructure.
The MLIT budget focuses on three fields; Global competitiveness; Earthquake Rehabilitation and disaster prevention; Impact mitigation of consumption tax increase. It includes construction of ring roads in three metropolitan areas and access roads to airports and seaports and development of container terminals. The ministry will also address research and development of technologies for upgrading ageing infrastructure such as maintenance robots. (2014/02/07)
