Construction of Tokyo’s New Toyosu Wholesale Market Awarded to Shimizu and Others

Tokyo Metropolitan Government awarded three contracts of building new wholesale markets in Bay Area to three consortiums led by Shimizu Corp, Taisei Corp. and Kajima Corp. The current market located in Tsukuji, Chuo-ku will be moved and developed at a 44ha site in Toyosu, Koto-ku. Since the bids were initially opened last November which turned out unsuccessful, the ceiling prices were increased by 47.3 billion yen in total.


The group of companies including Shimizu Corp, Obayashi Corp. and Toda Corp. will be in charge of the construction of the total 159,833m2 seafood intermediate wholesale building valued at 41.5 billion yen. The 32.3 billion yen contract for building the 119,718m2 seafood wholesale facilities was awarded to the joint venture consisting of Taisei Corp., Takenaka Corp. etc. The vegetable and fruit buildings will be built by the group including Kajima Corp., Nishimatsu Construction Co. and others at 24.7 billion yen. The work is scheduled for completion in March 2016. (2014/02/14)
