Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Corp. announced that a joint venture led by the firm won the contract to build Vietnam’s first metro line in Ho Chi Minh City and it broke ground on November 17. The contract is valued at 22.7 billion yen. Sumitomo Mitsui and local contractor Cienco 4 will construct 750 meter Package 1a; 240 meter underground Ben Thanh Station and 510 meter tunnel. The ground breaking ceremony took place with more than 200 participants including city officials and Japanese embassy officers.
Ho Chi Minh City Metro No.1 will run total 19.7 km connecting Ben Thanh in the city central and northeastern part of the city Suoi Tien. Japanese official development assistance will fund the project under the STEP scheme. (2016/11/25)
